Stefan Holm Disappoints In Beijing

Sweden’s hopes for its first Olympic Gold Medal of the Beijing Games were once again dashed Tuesday, as defending Olympic High Jump Champion Stefan Holm crashed out of the competition and ended up in 4th place, just outside the medals.

Holm looked to be in impressive form up until his first attempt at 2.34m, which he failed. He then tried to outjump Russian rival Andrej Silnov at 2.36m, but knocked the bar down there too.

It comes as yet another blow to the Swedish team, which has so far only won 3 silver medals in this Olympics. In Athens 2004 they won 7 medals, including 4 golds.
