Any company hiring an undocumented migrant could be fined or in serious cases be banned from operating their business. Travel expenses home for the illegal employee’s deportation should also be paid by the offending employer.
According to the Commission’s suggestion, five percent of all companies should be inspected each year. Although the Swedish government is sceptical to the proposal, the Social democrats are in favour.
In practice, a ruling of this type would mean that anyone working without a residence permit would risk immediate deportation.
