Georgia Asks Stockholm to Help with Ties with Moscow
The Georgian ambassador in Stockholm has expressed his government’s desire to have Sweden represent it in dealing with Russia – where relations were severed because of the conflict.
He adds that Sweden would be a good choice as a neutral nation and a member of the European Union but not NATO.
The Swedish center-right government has not yet answered.
But the opposition Social Democratic head of the Swedish foreign relations committee in parliament, Urban Ahlin, says this idea could worsen Sweden’s already cool relations with Russia.
He adds that the present Swedish foreign minister’s criticism of Moscow over the Russian-Georgian conflict has already made it difficult for Stockholm to have good relations with Moscow.
