OK for Apartment Mail Slots

The Swedish government has reversed a decision by the Post and Telecom Agency which would have required the owners of multi-tenant buildings to install mailboxes in ground floor entry halls, replacing those currently in the front doors of individual apartments.

The original ruling was aimed at improving the health of postal carriers, who have to lug bags of mail up and down stairs, in buildings without elevators.

But there were many protests from residents, and the government decided that the change would have meant a deterioration in service, violating the post office’s regulations.
