Swedbank stops non-repayable mortgages

Published onsdag 8 oktober 2008 kl 10.45
Tougher conditions for home buyers

One of the country’s leading banks, Swedbank, has announced a stricter loan policy. New customers will be required to pay off mortgages. Existing contracts with non-repayable mortgages – a financing model that is popular in Sweden - are not affected.

Moreover, new home loan takers will be required to provide ten percent of the real estate’s total purchasing price. Prior to the policy change five percent were sufficient.
