Launch of an Ariane-5 in French Guyana

After the latest round of layoffs in Volvo’s passenger car division the company may be facing problems in a different branch. According to reports yet unconfirmed the Swedish National Space Board is considering to pull out of the European launch rocket system Ariane.

This would directly affect Volvo’s Aero division in Trollhättan which manufactures components for Ariane rockets. A spokesman for Volvo Aero said in Trollhättan on Friday, Sweden’s retreat from the Ariane system would mean the end for Volvo’s 150 space related working places.
