More Women Report Abuse

A helpline for women subjected to threats or violence has received over 30,000 phone calls in its first 10 months.

According to Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet, the majority of calls are from the victims themselves.

The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention, BRÅ, say that more women are also reporting cases of abuse to the police. In the last ten years the figure has risen by 34 per cent.

Some believe the press attention celebrity cases receive could be a reason behind the increase.
