Concern over criminal relapse rate

Swedish authorities have expressed concern over the relapse rate of convicted criminals. According to a report by members of the correctional system more than a third of convicted legal offenders commit new crimes within three years after their release from prison.

The rate is substantially higher among juvenile delinquents. The report shows that more than 80 percent of convicted criminals under the age of 25 break the law again within three years after being released, sometimes while still on parole.
