Causes AIDS - Human Immunodeficiency Virus

The Institute for Infectious Disease Control has urged legal authorities to de-criminalize the spreading of HIV-infection. In an article for Dagens Medicin magazine institute director Ragnar Norrby wrote that prosecuting HIV-spreaders was jeopardizing the fight against AIDS. HIV-infected people were deterred from seeking medical help because they feared punishment.

Norrby said that it was more important to make people become aware of the dangers of unprotected sex.

By Swedish law knowingly spreading the HIV-virus through unprotected sexual relations is punishable by up to ten years in prison.
