Le Clézio at the Älvkarleby Church ceremony

French Nobel Literature Prize Winner Makes Early Visit to Sweden

This year’s Nobel literature prize winner, Frenchman Jean Marie Gustave Le Clézio visited the Swedish town of Älvkarleby north of Stockholm – the birth place of Swedish writer Stig Dagerman  – to receive the award created in his honor.

The Frenchman says the Swede’s sensitive writing greatly influenced him as a young man – then concerned about the future and fearing being called into the war in Algeria.

Le Clézio will returned to Sweden for the December 10th Nobel prize ceremony here in Stockholm.
