Swedes Stick To Krona

Despite the current fluctuations in the currency markets a majority of Swedes would still prefer to keep the Swedish Krona, rather than switch to the common European currency, the Euro. In a new poll 47 percent of Swedes want to keep the crown, 42 percent want to dump it. The gap has shrunk compared to the referendum result 5 years ago when 56 percent of Swedes voted no and this country rejected joining the Euro..

The krona has recently take a battering on the world’s money markets, losing out to both the dollar and the Euro, and this has led Sweden’s Foreign Minister Carl Bildt to wonder whether the debate about Swedish membership of the Euro will be re-ignited, saying that Europe’s economy has been helped during the banking crisis because of the single currency.
