Migration Court Defies UNHCR

Sweden can continue to expel asylum-seekers to Greece, despite a recommendation from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

The Migration Court of Appeal has ruled that an Iraqi man who came to Sweden a year ago can be sent back to Greece, which was the country where he entered the European Union.

Earlier this year the UNHCR called on EU countries to halt deportations to Greece because of flaws in the Greek asylum system.

So far this year the Swedish immigration authorities have decided to send around 400 asylum-seekers back to Greece.
