Halloween and All Hallows Day

Today is Halloween. Beginning as a celtic tradition, when farmers would light lanterns to scare evil spirits away from their newly wintering animals, it has grown into a major event in Sweden since the 1990s.

And tomorrow it’s All Hallow’s Day, the traditional beginning of winter. In Sweden it is often marked by the burning of candles in the churchyard, in memory of the departed.
