The supplementary tax, payable by those earning over 5,500 USD per month, was scheduled to be dumped.
But, speaking to Swedish Radio news, Finance Minister Anders Borg says that this step lies a fair distance in the future; and would not be taken even if the centre-right coalition were to win another term in office.
Borg belongs to the Conservative Moderate Party. He has come in for sharp criticism from within his own party and from the other governing parties for his stance.
But he says that making sure there is enough money for education and health care is what is most important.
