Street Crime

"Police Not Doing Enough To Fight Crime"

Every year, the Swedish police receives around 30 000 reports of street violence. Only 16 % of the crimes are solved. According to the Swedish National Council of Crime Prevention (Brottsförebyggande rådet) this number could be doubled if the police were more efficient in their initial investigations.

The council has examined 600 cases and conclude that many are dropped early, in spite of there being more information available. This often occurs in cases where the plaintiff or witnesses are of foreign descent and an interpreter is necessary for questioning.
