Starvation Not Greatest Cause Of Death Among Anorexia Victims

Starvation isn’t the only reason why women with anorexia die, according to a new study. Women with the eating disorder are also more to die due to alcohol abuse, suicide, and other diseases than women that don’t suffer from anorexia, the study found.

More than 6000 girls and young women who have had medical treatment for the disease have had their records looked at in the study by Swedish Karolinska Institute, the biggest study ever of its kind according to newspaper UNT.

Mortality rates among women and girls with anorexia were 6 times higher than among healthy girls of the same age, the biggest cause of death was suicide.
