New Motif on Swedish Krona

All Swedish 1-krona coins that are minted this year will have a special Baltic motif on their reverse. The reason is to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Finland’s separation from Sweden.

Composed by designer Annie Winblad Jabukowski the motif consists of a symbolic depiction of the sea that separates the two countries and a quote from Finnish poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg. The coin will be presented to the Swedish king and Finnish president in connection with the opening ceremony for the landmark year of 1809, in the Swedish Parliament.
