Two Centuries Since Loss of Finland

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the break-up between Sweden and Finland after 600 years as one country - and the beginning of more than a century of Finnish history as part of the empire ruled by the Russian czar, until independence in World War I.

Sweden and Finland are jointly celebrating this turbulent, dramatic and pioneering break-through in 1809 for both nations – with political events, seminars, sports and cultural happenings - focused on both history and the future.
