Reinfeldt in Afghanistan

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is in Afghanistan. He arrived on monday afternoon to Camp Northern Lights in Mazar- i-Sharif in the north of the country The journey has been kept secret for security reasons,according to Swedish News Bureau TT.

Currently there are over 300 Swedish soldiers in Northern Afghanistan. Since the Swedish Parliament voted for an increase in Swedish efforts in the area, that number is to increase to 500 over the coming year. Sweden has been part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team of the area since March 2006.

While in Afghanistan Reinfeldt aims to see for himself the work carried out by the team and show his support for the country’s redevelopment.
