The EU ministers stressed the need for Gaza’s borders to open so that humanitarian aid can pass through. During a press conference afterwards Livni said that Israel is willing to cooperate with the EU in regards to aid transports but that the smuggling of weapons across the border must stop.
Bildt stressed that it is important to let aid through but that trade must also be resumed as soon as possible, so that life in Gaza can go back to normal. Otherwise the situation may deteriorate again soon, Bildt told Swedish News Agency TT. On Sunday the 27 foreign ministers of the EU will have dinner together again, this time with Palestinian authorities, as well as representatives for Jordan, Egypt and Turkey.
