Pro and Anti Israel Demonstrators Clash

Published måndag 26 januari 2009 kl 10.02
The demonstrators have different views on the recent Israeli assault on Gaza

A demonstration in Malmö on Sunday in support of Israel met stiff resistance and was called off early.

The rally was in support of Israel’s right to defend itself. But feelings run high on this issue, as the Israeli armed forces have only just ended their assault on the Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

Around 150 Swedish police were deployed in the centre of Malmö, Sweden’s third biggest city, to prevent violent clashes.

While speakers at the rally had eggs and bottles thrown at them, no one was hurt. Police have arrested three people who have now been charged with resisting arrest.
