Government Accused of Massaging Figures on New Firms

The centre-right government is accused of consciously manipulating figures on how many new companies have been started.

Writing a debate article in Dagens Nyheter, Anders Bornefalk and Anita Du Rietz of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, say that the government should stop using misleading statistics to hide its half-hearted support for new businesses.

According to the government, the number of new firms rose by 22 percent during 2007. But the Confederation of Enterprise says that the real figure is almost impossible to know, due to the current system for dealing with data.

And in Dagens Nyheter they argue that the real increase in new companies cannot be much different from the average increase during the Social Democrats’ last time in office, from 1994-2006.
