The knowledge of Sweden’s school children has got worse over the last 20 years.
Reporting on Friday, Skolverket, the Swedish National Agency for Education, said that despite Swedish high school pupils being above average in several international studies, they have less and less knowledge.
It said that both the weakest and highest achieving Swedish pupils have a negative development of knowledge and the worst and biggest drop is in Maths and Nature/Science. Skolverket said the decline should be taken seriously.
Skolverket’s pupil’s knowledge survey was orded by the government’s education minister Jan Björklund.
