Fewer battalions to defend Sweden in wartime and fewer tanks and fighter planes.
Just some of the detailed proposals presented by the leader of Sweden’s armed forces on Friday.
The number of troops and officers ready for battle will be cut while armoured vehicles and fighter planes will also be reduced. The cutbacks, coming on the back of earlier reductions in military spending, are motivated by cost and strategic planning, with an emphasis on smaller more highly mobile rapid response units.
The proposal also contained reductions in the number of places where troops receive education.
