"Environmentally Harmful" Indian Medicine Exported to Sweden

A Swedish medical research report warns that some medicines made in India for the Swedish and other foreign markets are badly polluting rivers in India – where factory wastes are sometimes poured untreated into the water.

The report adds that tests in some Indian rivers showed a toxic level of pharmaceutical chemicals - killing fish and endangering the health of people living close by.

It also claims that Swedish consumers have no knowledge about the dangers involved – and that drugs should be marked with the producer’s nationality so that checks can be made of environmentally-clean production
