Kiruna Eu’s centre for Space Research?

Kiruna should be the EU’s centre of space and environmental research. This proposition was presented to Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt by representatives for the Swedish Institute of Space Physics as well as the Esrange Space Centre on Wednesday. They want the government to push for this during the upcoming Swedish EU presidency.

Kiruna, in the far north of Sweden, is Sweden’s space centre and has resources for space activity within a number of areas such as education, scientific research and actual rocket launches. No formulated plan for how to achieve this has yet been prepared but Reinfeldt showed a positive response to the idea to push for Swedish resources in space research.
