Stone Throwing and Fire in Stockholm Riot

The suburb of Tensta in north-west Stockholm was shaken by stone throwing and fires started by a gang of 40-50 youths on Monday night.

Benches and containers were set alight, but the fire service had to wait for a police escort before venturing to the scene.

Eventually the police dispersed the rioters, with no arrests. Neither have any injuries come to light. But the police are treating this as a serious incident, with many people reporting damage to property. A stash of stones found by police leads them to suspect that this incident was not spontaneous.

Daniel Mattsson, assistant station head for Western Stockholm says that they still had a number of officers left in the area at midnight. He also said that they do not have any clues as to why this disturbance broke out.
