Pirate Bay Defense Seeks Retrial

The defense lawyer of one of the four founders of the file-sharing website Pirate Bay who were recently sentenced to prison terms has formally applied for a retrial on Saturday. In his application to the Court of Appeal the lawyer wrote that the presiding judge was involved in a conflict of interest and was therefore biased.

Swedish Radio had reported earlier this week that the judge is a member of the Swedish Association for the Protection of Industrial Property Rights.

The defense lawyer of another of the four defendants has also announced that he will demand a new trial with another judge at the local district court. (KH)
