New Hindrance for Baltic Sea Pipeline

Swedish authorities have once again expressed their concerns about the planned Baltic Sea gas pipeline between Russia and Germany. As Swedish television (SVT) reports, both the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish Maritime Administration have rejected the route proposed by the consortium “Nordstream” due to environmental reasons.

According to the two authorities “Nordstream” has once more failed to present an alternative pipeline route that does not pose a threat to Swedish nature protection areas in the Baltic Sea.

The two Swedish authorities have advisory influence on the final Swedish decision whether or not the pipeline will be allowed to cross Swedish waters.
