Dawit Isaak

More than 200,000 Signed up

Almost 210,000 Swedes have signed a petition initiated by the four leading newspapers of the country demanding that journalist Dawit Isaak be released from prison in Eritrea. On Monday, the editor-in-chiefs of dailies “Dagens Nyheter”, “Svenska Dagbladet”, “Expressen” and “Aftonbladet” will submit the petition to the Eritrean ambassador to Sweden.

Dawit Isaak came to Sweden as a refugee 20 years ago. On a trip back to his native country in 2001, the now Swedish citizen was arrested by Eritrean authorities. Isaak has been held in prison without a trial since then.

In its latest report, Human Rights Watch states the government of Eritrea commits crimes against humanity on a regular basis.
