Freeze on Eritrean Deportations

The Swedish immigration authorities have put a freeze on deportations of Eritreans. Following strong criticism from the United Nations refugee organization and others, a review is being held to see if around 300 Eritreans who have been denied asylum can be allowed to stay here.

Mikael Ribbenvik, head lawyer at the Swedish Migration Board tells Swedish Radio News that anyone who has left Eritrea illegally and has avoided military or community service there would be in danger if they were returned to the country.
