Fingerprints in Passports

Swedish passports will in future include the fingerprint of their holders, the parliament (Riksdagen) decided on Wednesday afternoon. All passports issued after June 27th shall include a fingerprint, exceptions can only be made for children younger than 12.

With this additional biometric data, Swedish passports are supposed to be made both safer and less easy to falsify. According to the new bill, neither the passport authority nor any other authorities are allowed to save the fingerprints. (ah)
