EU-Sceptic Left Party Starts Campaign

Launching its campaign for the EU Parliament, the Left Party underlined its scepticism towards the EU. The Left is the only major Swedish party that still wants this country to leave the union.

The Left’s top candidate for the EU Parliament, Eva-Britt Svensson, told Swedish Radio News that it’s important to stop the growing power of Brussels. She called for major cuts in the EU budget, saying there ought to be more teachers in Sweden and fewer bureaucrats in Brussels.

The Left also wants to scrap the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, and takes up issues such as women’s rights, labor market policies, and the environment.
