Chlamydia Statistics Called into Question

A Swedish expert has questioned the accuracy of statistics here over the sexually transmitted infection Chlamydia.

Writing in the newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” Sunday, Per-Anders Mårdh, professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Lund, says the reported doubling of Chlamydia cases since the mid-90’s is highly unreliable.

He says the reports have not taken into account the switch then to a more sensitive test for the infection, and that the test used by most laboratories doesn’t detect a new strain of the bacteria.
