Eurovision 2009

No Win for Sweden in Europe

Sweden’s hope for success in the Eurovision Song Contest was crushed yesterday when Malena Ernman and her “La Voix” finished 21st.

The upbeat opera-pop that Ernman dished out failed to impress the European audiences and only gave her 33 points in total.

The winner was favourite Alexander Rybak from Norway with 387 points, followed by the Icelandic entry with 218 points. Third was Swedish singer Arash in a duet for Azerbaijan at 207 points. Finland finished last with 23 points.

Despite the result, Malena Ernman told Swedish News Agency TT that she was pleased with her performance.

“Everyone thinks that I must be disappointed, but I am happy and content anyway,” she told TT. (rm)
