Opposition Calls for More Meat Labelling

All meat in the EU should be labelled with its country of origin, according to Sweden's 3 opposition parties. The Social Democrats, Greens and Left Party say it is a way to make sure consumers know exactly what they are buying. Swedish Radio News has reported on poor conditions in Danish pig farms during the week, and as a result the parties, all in the middle of campaigning ahead of next week's EU elections, say consumers need more information so they can make an informed decision about where they buy their meat from.

But Sweden's agriculture minister, Eskil Erlandsson, from the Centre Party, is not convinced. He says the plans would be too expensive and that shops are labelling their meat products voluntarily anyway.
