Suspected Spy Came From China

A man identified only as X has been remanded in custody on Friday. Prosecutor Tomas Lindstrand says the man is suspected of illegal intelligence work from January 2008 until his arrest on the 3rd of July 2009.

A TV4 news programme quoted sources saying that the suspected spy had been spying on Chinese dissidents in Sweden for the Chinese government. Reports from the court on Friday say that the court proceedings were conducted in Mandarin, and late on Friday the lawyers confirmed to news agency TT that the accused is a Uigur, from a Muslim Chinese minority, who sought refuge and tehn citizenship in Sweden in the early 2000s..

The trial will go ahead on the 18th of June. The defendant denies all charges.
