Green Light for New Climate Bill

The Swedish parliament has endorsed the government's new climate and energy bill. The goal is to lower the greenhouse gas emissions by 40 % in 2020 compared to what they were in 1990.

In addition to the 20 % goal already decided on within the framework of the EU, Sweden aims to reach its goal by also contributing to lowering greenhouse gas emissions abroad, in other EU countries as well as in developing countries.

The Swedish opposition wanted the goal to be met by only counting green house gas emissions within the national borders, and that efforts in other countries should not include other EU countries, and that they would be on top of the 40%.
