Red Cross Fraud Worse than Expected

A former head of the Swedish Red Cross is being held in custody over allegations of severe fraud. As Red Cross Secretary General Christer Zettergren confirmed in an interview with news agency TT, the former head is accused of having stolen almost $US 340,000 from the organization over a period of five years.

The sum Zettergren now confirmed is much higher than the Red Cross had initially calculated. Zettergren fears the fraud might damage the reputation of Sweden’s Red Cross. (ah)
