Bildt Wants Iran to Accept Protests

On Monday Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt urged Iran to permit peaceful protest against the disputed results of the recent presidential election.

Bildt told reporters that the right for peaceful protests, which is written into the Iranian constitution, should be respected.

“Certainly the use of lethal violce against peaceful protesters is never tolerated in any country,” Bildt said.

On his blog on Sunday, Bildt also vehemently repudiated the allegations made by Iran that the protests were staged by foreign nations. He called it a “classic trick” by regimes in similar circumstances.
