Sweden Sent Back Diplomat

Swedish news agency TT reports that the Swedish government has deported a Chinese diplomat on the grounds of refugee espionage. According to TT sources, the Chinese government sent home a Swedish diplomat from Beijing shortly after.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry has confirmed to TT that a foreign diplomat has been sent back to the country of origin and that a Swedish diplomat has been sent home in response, but they did not want to comment of which foreign country it concerned.

According to TT sources, a Swedish citizen, who is a former political refugee from China and part of the Uyghur Muslim minority, was arrested in the beginning of June suspected of spying on refugees in Sweden.

The chief prosecutor Tomas Lindstrand said to TT that there are connections between the man and the Chinese embassy, but he would not confirm the allegations of espionage.
