company reconstructions

A Sign of Business Pangs

While many Swedish companies are surviving the economic crisis, they're not managing without taking major steps to save their business.

The number of applications for 'company reconstructions' that the Swedish courts have received has tripled since last year, reports financial paper Dagens Industri. In Swedish law a reconstruction protects the company from creditors' claims for a certain period while the business get its self in shape again.

Of the 237 applications 45 are in Stockholm, 29 in Jönköping and 17 in Gothenburg.

Mikael Kubu, of consultancy firm Ackordcentralen, says that the reconstructions outpace the number of bankruptcies and this is because even well run businesses are finding it hard to manage due to the massive fall in demand for products and services.
