Russian news bureau Rosbalt reports that the suspected hijackers of the ship Arctic Sea want be tried in either Sweden or Finland. The Malta-registered Finnish timmer freighter was hijacked on July 24 in Swedish waters, and was later found weeks later outside the Cape Verde islands in Africa.
The Russian Navy boarded the ship, returning its Russian crew to safety and arresting the alledged hijackers. The men claim, however, that they are environmental activists held onboard as prisoners.
Authorities at the Swedish Ministry for Justice have not commented on the request.
