Little Spark for Electric

As Frankfurt's huge car show opens on Thursday Volvo announce that they may produce a car driven partly on electricity by 2012 - but a survey also published on Thursday shows that only a small minority of Swedes would consider buying such a vehicle.

State energy company Vattenfall surveyed 1000 Swedes - only 12 per cent expressed interest in buying an electric car. Concern that stood in the way included people's worry that the cars would be expensive and need to be charged via special power sockets.

Göran Lundgren, head of the electric car project at vattenfall, says that many of the concerns are based on a lack of information, rather than reality and that therefore his company is not put off by the findings.
