Labor Union suggestion

Firemen Demand CCTV

With violence against police and firemen increasing in some Swedish suburbs, the labor union Kommunal demands camera monitoring in all fire engines to ensure the safety of the staff. The head of the labor union, Ylva Thörn, refers to the successful example of busses and subways where camera monitoring has helped decrease violence both against personnel and equipment.

In an interview with Swedish Radio News Thörn says she is convinced that CCTV could keep perpetrators from attacking fire fighters. In the past weeks, fire brigades had to call for police protection when trying to extinct fires in the suburbs of Uppsala, Malmö and Gothenburg.
