Election 2010

Tie in the Polls

Exactly one year ahead of the general election on September 19th 2010 opinion polls see a tie between the government and the opposition.

According to the latest opinion poll by carried out by research institute Synovate and published in daily broadsheet Dagens Nyheter the three opposition parties (Social Democrats, Left Party and the Green Party) are leading with 48.8 percent.

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt’s so-called Alliance (consisting of Moderates, Liberals, Center Party and Christian Democrats) get 45.2 percent in the poll. But the slight lead of the opposition is not statistically firm. Unlike earlier predictions the xenophobic Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) would not get enough votes to vanquish the four-percent-threshold.
