Hägglund Attacked for Firing Pharmacy Board

Minister for Social Affairs Göran Hägglund has received harsh criticism for his decision to dismiss the board of the formerly state-run pharmacies. The deputy chairman of parliament’s economic committee, Social Democrat Tomas Eneroth, demanded that Hägglund be called before the committee to answer for what the opposition regards as a grave mistake. In a press release Eneroth said that forcing an entire professional board to resign meant misusing tax money.

Hägglund had dismissed the pharmacy board members because in his opinion they were not willing to adopt the framework for the deregulation of the country's pharmacies. The members of the board had decided Friday to reject the terms of the deregulation opening the business for private competitors.
