Church To Vote "Yes" To Gay Marriage

The Lutheran Church of Sweden is to vote in favour of marrying gay couples, according to a new survey by Swedish paper Svenska Dagbladet.

The church synod is due to meet later this week to discuss and vote on the issue, and according to the paper 53% of the synod members say they will vote yes. 16% say they will vote no, while the rest either didn't respond, or don't know.

Gays and lesbians have been allowed to marry in Sweden since May this year, with the same rights as heterosexual couples, Thursday's vote would allow gay weddings to occur in Church of Sweden churches and with vicars presiding over the ceremonies.
