Tsvangirai Misses EU Aid Conference

Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has been forced to cancel his participation in the European Development Days conference at the end of this week in Stockholm.

The event organizers say Tsangirai won’t be taking part because of the political crisis in his country. His MDC party last Friday announced it was suspending all cooperation with President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF.

Other participants in the EU meeting on development assistance include Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and the president of the European Commision, José Manuel Barroso. Around 4000 people are expected to take part in the conference, which opens Thursday.
