Sahlin Re-Elected as Party Leader

updated 17:35

Social Democratic party leader was re-elected by the delegates of the ongoing party conference in Stockholm Thursday afternoon. Sweden's largest political party hopes to return to power after next September's General Election.

A victory would mean that Sweden would get its first-ever woman prime minister with party leader Mona Sahlin, a loss would mean 2 consecutive periods outside the corridors of power, the longest in modern times for the party.

Speaking with Radio Sweden, editorial writers Henrik Brors from the national independent liberal Dagens Nyheter paper, and Bengt Urban Fransson from the Social Democratic Piteåtidningen in northern Sweden, agree that how to deal with the rising unemployment is the major issue at the conference.
